Solim Ullah
Finance Manager/ Teacher
My name is Solim Ullah, and I was born in Myint Hlut (Mayrullah) – Thabhe Daung village in northern Maungdaw, Myanmar. Growing up, I was a Grade 10 student with a strong ambition to pass my matriculation exams and attend university. My biggest dream was to become a politician, someone who could represent my people and fight for the rights of our community, ensuring access to education, freedom of movement, and dignity in a country where such opportunities were denied to us.
Unfortunately, my hopes were cut short when the Myanmar military launched brutal persecution and genocide against the Rohingya community. Like thousands of others, I was forced to abandon my studies, my ambitions, and the land where I grew up. My family and I fled across the border and sought refuge in Bangladesh, where we have lived since then in Refugee Camp 14.
Life in the camp comes with constant challenges—especially the lack of higher education and opportunities to develop our potential. Even though my dream of entering politics in Myanmar remains unfulfilled, I have not given up on working for my people. In Bangladesh, I serve as a primary volunteer teacher with COAST Foundation, helping Rohingya children continue their education and keep their hopes alive for a brighter future.
