Mohammed Jashim
Editor & Organizer
Mohammed Jashim was born and raised in U Shin Kya village, northern Maungdaw, Myanmar. While living in Myanmar, he studied up to Grade 8 and aspired to pass the matriculation examination, attend university, and become a doctor to serve his rural community, where access to proper medical care was extremely limited.
However, due to the genocide and systematic persecution carried out by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya people, Mohammed Jashim was forced to flee his homeland with his family. He now resides in Refugee Camp 14 in Bangladesh. The displacement abruptly ended his formal education and made it impossible for him to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. Life in the refugee camp remains extremely challenging, particularly because of the lack of opportunities for higher education.
Despite these hardships, Mohammed Jashim has shown remarkable dedication to serving his community. He currently works as a Rohingya secondary teacher with the COAST Foundation, where he is committed to supporting the education and future of Rohingya children. In addition, through Rohingya Students Unity for Rights (RSUR), he actively contributes to addressing critical community issues, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness, seasonal awareness sessions, adult training, prevention of child marriage, child labor awareness, women’s empowerment, and the promotion of girls’ education.
