Komizul Hoque

General Secretary

My name is Komizul Hoque. I was born and raised in Myint Hlut (Mayrullah) village, northern Maungdaw, Myanmar. In Myanmar, I studied Grade 10 and dreamed of passing the matriculation exam, attending university, and becoming a doctor to serve rural areas where people had no access to proper medical treatment.

Sadly, Due to the genocide and persecution by the Myanmar military, I was unable to continue my studies or achieve my dream. My family and I were forced to flee from our homeland, and we came to Bangladesh, where I now live in Refugee Camp 14. Life in the camp brings many challenges, especially the lack of opportunities for higher education, so my dream of becoming a doctor remains unfulfilled.

Despite these challenges, I have devoted myself to helping my community. I currently work with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and also serve as a CEC/Board Member of the Rohingya Students Unity for Rights (RSUR), a Rohingya civil organization. Through RSUR, I work on GBV (Gender-Based Violence) awareness, seasonal awareness sessions, adult training, child marriage prevention, child labor awareness, women’s empowerment, and girls’ education.
